Amongst our plethora of projects Wylde IA Director Maxine has found time to be a Visiting Lecturer for the BA Interior Design course at UWE for the student’s Final Major Projects this year. With two of the designers winning some rather significant prizes – we wanted to share the success!

Last week two of the students on the course were commended for their innovative and outstanding design. Patrice Watson, for the ‘National Slavery Museum’ won the top prize at ND – ‘New Designer of the Year’  and Nerys Evans, for her work ‘Sandscapes’ won the GES Exhibit and Events Associate Prize.

New Designers 2018 saw over 3,000 talented individuals exhibiting over a fortnight covering a wide range of different design disciplines.

“Each year the Business Design Centre (BDC) supports an award winning designer in both weeks as decided by an independent panel of judges that look for a winner who is innovative, inspiring, engaging and forward thinking, reflecting the values of the BDC. Week two’s winner was announced at the mid-week ceremony as Patrice Watson, of the University of West England in Bristol. Meeting with Patrice at the show, she explains that receiving the award was somewhat “surreal” and that her piece, the National Slavery Museum, has been a project requiring a vast amount of dedication; something that is clear from both the work and how passionately she recalls the process that took her to a pleasantly overwhelming unveiling of the final design.”

Interior Design student Nerys Evans won the New Designers GES Exhibit and Events Associate Prize with her clear and cohesive design concept. Judge’s comments stated that Nerys demonstrated a clear understanding of the clients objective & use of materials. Her vision was articulated clearly, making every space unique with relevance and compassion.

UWE received lots of praise and positive feedback from the Judges and Industry visitors. We wanted to give our Maxine a big shout out for her role in this success as one of the industry experts and guest lecturers on the course this year!
