In the Wylde blog this week we’re taking you with us to one of the most influential creative spaces in the world, the remarkable Museum of Modern Art in New York City. As we’re all designers and creatives at Wylde, we believe inspiration isn’t something to keep to ourselves! The MoMA is often described as one of the greatest art galleries in the world and it earns that title, housing some of the most famous and recognisable artworks and artists. From iconic modernist masterpieces to bold contemporary installations, there are 5 floors of art and design – don’t get us started on the design-led gift shop…
Seeing works by artists who reshaped painting, colour theory and abstraction reinforces a powerful reminder – that design movements that once felt radical and disruptive are now foundational. We love being daring with our design schemes at Wylde, and it’s a refreshing reminder that some of the world’s most iconic art was groundbreaking at one point!
As interior designers and architects we couldn’t help but mention the building itself. MoMA really offers a masterclass in curation and spatial storytelling – the way finding is clear, the lighting is effective, transformative and considered. It’s all design thinking at the highest level! For those of us working across branding, visual identity and spatial experience, that kind of immersion is so noticeable when walking through a buidling like this.
There was so much to see – so we’re sharing just a few of many photos taken during the visit – some of our favourites are the Picassos, the ‘Waterlilies’ by Monet, Rothko and so many more. We also fell in love with some of the ceramics and tableware in the design store – any designers haven! We hope this bring you a splash of colour and inspiration for the week ahead and if you ever find yourself in New York, make time for MoMA!
