Continuing our Senior Flexonics Season – this week’s Wylde Insight focusses on the innovation involved in not just the way this design was pulled together but the way the space functions going forwards as an innovative workplace. The Senior Flexonics project demonstrates innovation through the creation of a fully integrated, modern workplace that connects front-of-house, office, and production environments within a single cohesive building. The design establishes a strong identity by weaving branding, materials, and visual language consistently throughout all spaces.
A key innovative element is the integration of the client’s research and development processes into the interior design environment. Senior Flexonics’ work in fluid dynamics analysing flows through pipes and plates, is translated into a graphic visual system applied within the workspace. This includes a feature display wall where flow patterns represent the company’s engineering processes, each staff member is symbolised as a shape within the flow, then individually signed by them thus embedding personal identity into the visual narrative!
This approach transforms complex scientific processes into an accessible and human-centred visual language, reinforcing both company identity and staff engagement.
Further innovation is seen in the use of large-format acoustic installations incorporating imagery of South Wales. These were developed in close collaboration with the client, including photographic contributions from the Managing Director and local photographers. This embeds a strong sense of place and local identity within the workspace.
Overall, the project redefines workplace design by integrating technical processes into spatial storytelling. Wylde created an environment that is both functional and emotionally resonant with its occupiers connecting people, production, and place through the design.
