In the blog this week – our beautiful project for Thatchers Cider in the heart of Somerset, has been featured in FX Magazine for it’s fabulous Milliken Floors flooring! The article titled; ‘Projects that make the most of a variety of spaces’ praises our design for the Thatchers HQ.

We were appointed by Thatchers to design the inside space of the new HQ, perched two floors up in a brand-new distribution centre. This new building created an opportunity to bring all the departments together in one office space. The new offices needed to accommodate a wide range of different requirements.

“We proposed an ambitious vision for the space which included a series of three-dimensional boxes rising through the tallest part of the building which would house various open and closed meeting spaces, while linking the three floors together. At the core of the space there is a dramatic bespoke stairs case wrapping around a five-storey steel column reflecting the idea of an apple peel unravelling. The materials, colours, finishes and imagery reflect Thatchers’ family heritage.

For the floor coverings, a natural-looking, biophilic colour palette from Milliken’s Glazed Clay, Naturally Drawn and Facet carpet tile collections was specified to meet the visual and technical performance brief for the modern office interior.

For the ground floor desking area, Glazed Clay in deep green tones were chosen to provide a natural feel to the space. Viewed from the upper mezzanine area, the floor appears to continue through the wall of windows and into the landscape beyond. The tonal patterns partner with the surfaces of natural wood. The adjacent flexible desking area is clearly demarcated with Milliken’s Facet design in Tangerine.

Creating a comfortable and productive environment that reflected Thatchers’ brand identity and values were crucial requirements of the brief. Milliken’s Comfort Lite cushion backed carpet plays an important part. Beyond the aesthetics, the acoustic performance of Comfort Lite also makes a significant contribution, alongside the acoustic ceiling screens, in absorbing ambient and impact sound around this very open working environment.

Glazed Clay & Naturally Drawn – which were chosen for the largest areas of this project – are manufactured from Econyl 100% regenerated Nylon and are carbon neutral products. All the products are manufactured with 100% recycled open cell polyurethane cushion backing.
